Why Coding?

When I started this process, I was intrigued by the coding side of building websites. I spent day after day writing html & css, and learning the intricacies of the bootstrap framework. I had used web builders in the past, but nothing could replicate the thrill of typing a few lines of code, hitting refresh, & seeing my ideas come to life on the screen! After experiencing the limitless options that pure coding provides, it is difficult for me to go back to working in a web builder.

The other reason I build websites using code, is because I am a bit of a rebel. Content Management Systems limit the amount of control a user has when designing and building a website. There are restrictions on what I am allowed to do and frankly, I don't like being told that I can't do something! I love being able to follow the artistic lead of a client and telling them yes to an idea they have for their site. Coding gives me more freedom & more ability to create.

Clean code and the proper use of semantics also ensures that my sites are more accessible than most. I like to make sure that alt tags and proper semantics are used. This is not only helpful for SEO, but it also ensures that adapative equipment can accurately read my site; allowing users with disabilities access.

It doesn't hurt that I am married to a chef. I have learned the value of creating something properly from beginning to end, using quality ingredients, and having patience to make sure the dish is well made.

I also love coding the way I love music. It's just another language. The symbols alone may not make much sense, but together they create something beautiful. Basically, I love creating websites from scratch.
